Frequently asked questions
What AutoFill Portal fills, what it does with your data, and what it will never do without you. If your question isn't here, email support@autofillportal.com.
Can AutoFill Portal fill out a building permit application for me?
Yes. Open the permit application — a municipal or state web portal, or a PDF you downloaded — and AutoFill Portal reads the form's own fields and fills them from data you entered once: a spreadsheet of your jobs, a connected QuickBooks customer list, or your saved business profile.
It fills the form and stops there. You review every field and file it yourself.
Does it work on online permit portals as well as PDF forms?
Both. On the web it fills standard HTML forms, permit portals such as Accela Citizen Access, EnerGov and OpenGov, vendor portals, and custom sites nobody has pointed it at before, because it reads whatever form is on the page instead of following a per-site script.
For PDFs it fills any PDF that has a text layer, whether or not the PDF has built-in form fields. A purely scanned image with no text layer is not supported yet. See the full walkthrough.
Will AutoFill Portal submit the permit for me?
No, and there is no setting that makes it. AutoFill Portal fills the fields and stops. You check the values, fix anything that looks wrong, and press submit yourself.
On a high-stakes filing the person signing it stays the person who decides it is right.
Where is my data stored, and is it safe?
Your most sensitive information stays on your own device: licence and registration numbers, EIN or tax ID, insurance and bond policy numbers, signature details, home address, bank details and date of birth are held by the extension in your browser and are never written to our servers. The spreadsheet you upload also stays in your browser.
What we do keep is your account and business profile, encrypted, so it can save you time across forms. You can export or delete all of it at any time, and deletion is immediate. Read the security principles or the full privacy policy.
What does AutoFill Portal cost?
It is free during the beta, with no credit card and no usage limit. This is not a waitlist: create an account and the product is yours to use today.
Pricing will be announced later, and we will not start charging an existing account without telling you first. See pricing.
Which browsers does it work in?
The extension runs on desktop Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The web PDF Filler at autofillportal.com runs in the browser with just an account and no extension, so you can start there.
The extension listing is being republished for the beta, so today the web PDF Filler is the fastest way in.
Do I need a spreadsheet, or can it use my QuickBooks data?
You can use either. If you keep customers and jobs in QuickBooks Online, connect it from the extension's settings and your customer list becomes your fill data: names, job addresses, phones and emails come straight across and fill the form, with no spreadsheet to build and no export step.
The connection is read-only, nothing is ever written back to QuickBooks, and you can disconnect it at any time. If you would rather use a spreadsheet, upload a CSV or Excel file instead.
How does it know which value belongs in which field?
It reads the form's own labels, structure and layout and matches them to your data by meaning, not by a per-agency rulebook. That is why a form nobody has ever seen still fills.
Each filled field is colour-coded by how confident the match is, so the ones worth a second look are obvious before you file.
What happens if it puts the wrong value in a field?
You correct it in place, and the correction is remembered for that form. We store the field's fingerprint and the name of the column you chose — never the value you typed — and apply your choice automatically the next time you open the same form.
Does it only do construction permits?
Permits are where we started and where the product is most tested, but nothing in the engine is permit-specific: it reads whatever form is in front of it.
If your week disappears into a different family of fragmented, high-stakes forms, it will fill those too, and we would like to hear about it.
