It does the data entry — which is most of the work — but not the whole thing, on purpose. It reads the form and fills in what it can from your saved data: names, addresses, job details, the fields that are just information you'd otherwise retype.

Where a form asks you to decide — check a box, pick residential or commercial, choose from a dropdown — it points you at the likely answer, but you make the call. Then you review every field and submit yourself. It's the fast typist that never files without you: it kills the copy-pasting, you keep the judgment.

No, and there is no setting that makes it. It fills the fields and stops. You check the values, fix anything that looks wrong, and press submit yourself.

On a filing you have to sign, the person signing it stays the person who decides it is right.

Your most sensitive information never leaves your device. Licence and registration numbers, EIN or tax ID, insurance and bond policy numbers, signature details, home address, bank details and date of birth are held by the extension in your browser and are never written to our servers. The spreadsheet you upload stays in your browser too.

What we keep is your account and business profile, encrypted, so it can save you time across forms. You can export or delete all of it at any time, and deletion is immediate. Read the security principles or the full privacy policy.

Your customers' details are handled like your own. The names, job addresses, phone numbers and emails in your spreadsheet or your QuickBooks customer list stay in your browser, fill the form in front of you, and are not kept afterwards: we store your account and your business profile, not your customer records.

AI matching is switched off in production, so nothing about your customer is sent to a model at all. The privacy policy has the detail.

A form that is twenty-plus minutes of retyping becomes a couple of minutes of review. You read down the page instead of typing down it.

It also fills the fields you would have skipped — the second phone number, the parcel line, the licence box on page three — and that is the part you feel later, when a form does not come back over a blank you never noticed.

Because reviewing a filled form and typing a blank one are different jobs. Reading thirty populated fields takes a minute or two. Typing them takes the better part of half an hour, and it is the typing that puts the wrong digit in the licence number.

Checking is where mistakes get caught; retyping is where they get made. You keep the judgment and lose the slog.

Both, with one honest caveat about portals. Portals built on OpenGov are verified working today — that is where we have driven real filings, in Salem and Concord, NH. Other portals often work, because there is no per-site script: it reads whatever form is on the page, standard HTML forms and sites nobody has pointed it at before included. Tell us which one your town uses and we will confirm it rather than leaving you to find out.

For PDFs it fills a PDF that has a text layer, with or without built-in form fields. A purely scanned image with no text layer is not supported yet. See the full walkthrough.

The extension runs on desktop Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The web PDF Filler at autofillportal.com needs only an account, with no extension at all, so you can start there.

The extension listing is being republished for the beta, so today the web PDF Filler is the fastest way in.

Either one. If your customers and jobs already live in QuickBooks Online, connect it from the extension's settings and your customer list becomes your fill data: names, job addresses, phones and emails come straight across. There is no spreadsheet to build and no export step.

The connection is read-only, nothing is ever written back to QuickBooks, and you can disconnect it at any time. Prefer a spreadsheet? Upload a CSV or Excel file instead.

It reads the form's own labels, structure and layout, and matches them to your data by meaning rather than by a per-agency rulebook. That is why a form nobody has ever seen still fills.

Each filled field is colour-coded by how confident the match is, so the ones worth a second look are obvious before you file.

You fix it in place and your fix stays put — re-running the fill on that document will not overwrite it.

What it does not do yet is carry your choice forward to the next form. The correction is recorded as structure only — the field's fingerprint and the name of the column you chose, never the value you typed — but it does not change a later fill, because we have not yet measured that acting on it helps more often than it hurts. We would rather say that than sell you a memory this build does not have.

Permits are where we started and where the product is most tested, but nothing in the engine is permit-specific: it reads whatever form is in front of it.
